The Max Planck Science Gallery is a remarkable place: A walk-in digital installation. A response to social networks and the mobile Internet. And a new form of science communication!

The Max Planck Science Gallery presents its exhibitions entirely digitally – with a high degree of interaction and visitor participation. And in future it will also use the mobile Internet with pre- and after-visit elements.

Multi-touch technologies and contactless interfaces bring real and virtual worlds closer together. Interactive exhibits open up “social” realms of experience and personalized insights for visitors. The Science Gallery allows exploration through both the mind and the senses.

“As a research institution, we feel it is our duty to make our research transparent and to enter into dialogue. However, the public also has a duty to participate and to seek dialogue with us.”

Peter Gruss, Science Should Serve Humanity, speech by the President of the Max Planck Society on the 100th anniversary of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society.

Knowledge is increasing at incredible speed today. At the same time, development cycles for applications are being reduced. Research and development have become factors which play a key role in determining how productive, flexible and future-oriented a society is. The search for knowledge in the fields of bytes, atoms, neurons and genes has become far removed from our everyday realms of experience.
Everyone knows that our present is based on knowledge and experience obtained by generations before us.

Knowledge and technologies emerging today will shape our lives tomorrow.

The Max Planck Science Gallery explores the significance of the latest scientific and technological transformations – new and complex developments which are just emerging. It not only concerns science, technology and society’s requirements, but also the multifaceted links and interactions between them.

While the future cannot be foreseen,
it can be shaped.

In short: the “Max Planck Science Gallery” aims to arouse curiosity about what is ahead of us and what lies behind innovation. It seeks to provide insights into new scientific issues and prospects, and to make an active contribution to public debate in Germany and Europe.

The Max Planck Science Gallery is aimed at an audience interested in social, scientific and cultural issues, representatives from the fields of politics, business, the sciences and the media, and, in particular, enthusiastic young people.
